January 27, 2013 - Millsville, New Jersey

Although it looks pretty cold, today was actually a pretty good day to fly.  Visibility was good, winds were mild, and it wasn't too cold.

But it is wintertime when you see ice in the Back River after taking off from Essex Skypark.   I headed across the Bay towards Ridgely Airport, where I needed to get some fuel and meet Mugsy.  Then we were heading northeast to Millsville, NJ for lunch with other Essex Skyparkers.

Passing just to the north of the big Dover Air Force Base.   You are not in their airspace as long as you are above 2500 feet.

On the ground at Millsville, just outside the airport prison.  Actually, the restaurant is inside the chainlink fence.

We ended up with a pretty large group:  15 or so.  We had a nice lunch.  Now we are heading back to our airplanes.

Brian (RV-8) from Clearview was part of the group.

I think Boeing overhauls the big CH-47 Chinook helicopters for the Army.  Or maybe they are new.  We went over and checked them out.  They look like they are brand new.   Boeing first started building them in the early 1960s and they are still in production.  They are fast and can carry a lot of stuff.

Bruce is checking out Brian's RV-8.

A little snow on the ground.

Brian's wife freezing while the two RV-8 pilots are engrossed looking in the cockpit.

Bruce and I headed towards the Eastern Shore, where before splitting up, we had a little fun.  I paid the price though.  Pulled too many G's and was useless for the rest of the day.  All I could do was lay on the couch and watch TV.  I wanted the NFL Pro Bowl from start to finish -- that's how bad it was.
